SESSIONS

Session I - 9:10-10:00am
Tabata Sport, Christopher Woolen, University of Texas at Arlington
Torch fat, build muscle and improve performance with this sport themed High Intensity Interval Training class, where exercises are broken into 20 seconds work, 10 seconds rest intervals.

Pilates, Kourtney Martin, Texas A&M University
This class is designed for students who are looking to gain a greater understanding of Pilates. We will use concepts from the six Pilates principles: concentration, centering, control, breathing, precision, and flowing movement to enhance students’ performance each session. Participants will learn complete control and coordination of their body, mind, and spirit using the core fundamentals and proper repetition of Pilates exercises. Pilates is known not only for its ability to enhance movement and muscular strength, but also, for awakening the mind-body-spirit connection. Practicing the core fundamentals of Pilates will allow participants to break down the basic skills needed to properly perform each exercise using efficient movement and transitional patterns.

Saturday Sendback Spin, Kailey and Annie, Southern Methodist University
In Saturday Send Back Cycle, instructors Kailey and Annie will help you master the art of co-teaching a group exercise class.   Learn how to improvise while enjoying Spice Girls, Justin Timberlake and other early 2000’s tunes.

Fundamentals of Programming, Michael Jin, University of Houston
As a Powerlifting coach, I hope to share with you all the fundamental principles behind programming an individual for strength. Understanding the skill level of your clients, as well as being able to distinguish proper and individualized technique for that lifter is crucial in determining his or her progress. My assistant coach and I hope to bring you various programming concepts from the across the world, and our own anecdotal experiences as competitive athletes to shed light on how week to week training should be outlined for a client of any experience level

You will love this creative way to build in basic athletic cardio moves with creative functional training in a larger group setting. Great for your bootcamp, circuit, sports conditioning and small group and group exercise classes.

Why Diets Don't Work, Andrew Innes, University of Houston 
The purpose of this presentation is to better explain the counterproductive aspects of “dieting” which are often overlooked by everyday consumers. During this lecture I will be explaining several different pieces of “dieting” which may burden the clients lifestyle and in turn contradict their health goals.  After leaving the presentation the attendees should be better educated about the downsides of restrictive dieting and understand how a healthy diet should look and make them feel. ​

The Power in the Beat, Celina Tabuena and Ana Malagon, Sam Houston State University and University of Houston
With the popularity of rhythm based cycle classes growing, are power based classes dying? There are both types of riders in today's cycle population. Learn how to teach towards both rhythm based riders and power based riders. Instructors will teach the differences between the two and what you as instructors can do to keep participation up while reaching both sides of the spectrum!

What makes people passionate about Cross Fit, SoulCycle, Camp Gladiator, and other programs?  The answer is "Culture", the latest fitness trend that rocking the industry.  Learn the tools necessary to create your own culture with proven techniques to make your participants feel welcomed, become part of something bigger than themselves, and make them excited to keep coming back workout after workout.

Relax and Flow Yoga, Me'Leeza Comeaux, Sam Houston State University
This class is designed for yoga practitioners of all levels, whether you are just beginning or an experienced yogi. This class will blend Anusara and Iyengar yoga in such a way that will bring one closer to developing confidence when practicing yoga. This class will allow practitioners to develop bodily and mental awareness as they delve inside themselves through the use of deep stretching and breathing. Relax and Flow yoga is great for learning the basic vocabulary of the traditional poses, which can be found in any yoga class all over the world. Its goal is to alleviate anxiety and stress for the perfect yoga session.
Session III - 11:10-12:00pm
Pop Pilates x Strength Training, BreAnn Wilson, University of Houston
This session encourages group fitness instructors to step outside of their comfort zone and try out a new format. Through this presentation you will learn how to incorporate principles from Pilates and mind body formats into strength and conditioning workouts.

Nothing but bodyweight, Belen Gutierrez, University of Texas at Austin
Take out the complications of equipment by working smarter, not harder, and get back to the basics!  In this class, you will build off four basic exercises to incorporate progressive modifications focusing on mobility, cardio, and stability.

Cycle & Strength, Rebecca Moon, Texas A&M University Corpus Christi
Cycle & Strength offers heart pumping cardio and weight training in one! This class will go through challenging interval training on the spin bike while increasing muscular strength with off-the-bike exercises. Grab a towel, come ride it out to energy blasting music!

Hip Hop Cardio- Turn up before the Turn up, Christie Holland, University of Texas at Arlington
All fitness levels welcome! We will build our cardio and sculpt our bodies while dancing to today’s hits. This class will provide an energetic workout, while breaking a sweat and you will have a blast while doing it.

This lecture will discuss body image issues and how relevant they are within the fitness community. This is an issue that is experienced not only by our clients and participants but also as fitness professionals. This lecture will include an interactive discussion to recognize symptoms and signs, and highlighting examples and helpful coping mechanisms.

Session IV - 1:15-2:00pm
POUND, Jessica Coelho, Texas A&M University
Pound is a full body workout using ripstix! It's a cardio jam session and transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out. Pound helps you BECOME the music in an extremely fun workout combining conditioning, strength training and cardio with some Pilates and Yoga inspired moves.

POP Pilates, Darby Goodwin, Sam Houston State University
POP Pilates is an upbeat, choreographed version of traditional Pilates.  It is a dance on the mat that hits every muscle group and will leave you feeling toned and strong.

A Mindful Ride, Amelia Brown, University of Texas at Austin
Let’s take a journey as we connect mind and body in this cardio workout. We will start with a short discussion about how to improve the participants' experience through meaningful moments and inspirational messaging. After, we will get moving with a 35-minute mindful ride workout.

Throw IT Back to Throw Backs, Abrianna and Cameron, University of Texas at San Antonio
Throw IT Back to Throw Backs is a unique cardio-dance class that focuses on keeping participants engaged and enthusiastic! The session will recharge late 1990's and early 2000's hits, with trending current dance moves! The class will include helpful techniques that can be implemented to help participants feel more excited and comfortable about dance fitness. Participants will leave wanting more throw back hits!

Nutrition Scope of Practice for the Fitness Professional, Shannon Curtis, University of Houston
Come learn more about nutrition and how to more confidently advise your clients! This lecture will not only teach you the basics of nutrition science and general guidelines, but also teach you the boundaries that the fitness professional should stay in when advising clients. Nutrition is an integral part of one's fitness journey, and it's our jobs to lead properly!

Session V - 2:10-3:00pm
MAX OUT, Maddie Brewster, Texas State University
Max Out is a 45 minute cardio and toning combined class. In the 45 minutes, participants will alternate between high intensity cardio segments and upper and lower body toning combinations. The purpose of Max Out is to provide a blasting cardio workout, with the addition of muscular endurance training to provide a well-rounded class to "Max Out" the body!

Athletic Yoga Recovery, Me'Leeza Comeaux, Sam Houston State University
This class is designed for athletic teams of all types. It aims to facilitate both muscle recovery and injury prevention in athletes. Rehabilitation is key for an individual person or team that wants to achieve peak physical performance. Not only does this yoga provide a deep relaxing and restorative experience for practitioners but aids in the full stretching of muscle tendons that tend to become tight and immobile due to repetitive strength training. Athletic Yoga Recovery blends both Hatha and Inyengar yoga in such a way that allows each person to fully experience the numerous benefits of yoga in combination with sports.

Piloxing, Emily Herrmann, Texas A&M University
Piloxing is a full-body workout that challenges participants with its mixture of muscular endurance and cardio. Piloxing is a fusion of standing Pilates and boxing traditionally done barefoot.

You will experience how power-based coaching with color is fast, easy-to-master and exhilarating on ICG7 bikes. Coach By Color is to bring a simple and intuitive form of communication to Group cycling to improve the riders experience and to achieve their fitness results in less time.

Bollywood Fitness Dance Workout Shanmugapriya Ravindran, Arlington

This is a 45 minute lecture that discusses how to launch and grow a Bootcamp Program at your own Campus Recreation Center. We will discuss fitness trends, safety, and ways to utilize your campus to offer a unique experience for your students!​

You will learn all about incorporating movements the emphasize stabilization and mobility through the foot/ankle, hips and thoracic spine while integrating multiple joints in all three planes.

No Caffeine Allowed is an interactive discussion to draw attention about how you can create energy naturally in a Group Fitness class. We will experience various techniques through a fun hands on activity as well as highlighting when and how to use them.

Bootcamp and HIIT - Keep the Madness Safe Yasser Abdelhamid, Southern Methodist University
Proper form is a main component of any successful, safe and injury free bootcamp or HIIT class.  In this session, you will learn how to keep your bootcamp or HIIT class fun while focusing on proper form without interrupting the class flow. You will be able to differentiate between correct and incorrect form and have the ability to improve the form of your class participants with minimal cues.

PiYo Live
This strength and mind-body fusion class incorporates shorts bursts of cardiovascular and strength training for all-over body conditioning. Traditional Pilates and Yoga are combined with dynamic balance, dance conditioning, plyometrics and functional training.​
